![]() ![]() I'd be playing amazingly, and then - woops! - look at that, you drew nothing but lands, and now are 50 gems outside of starting another draft. I've also noticed that you'll frequently get 'bad luck' right when you need one more win to earn enough gems to draft again. What are the odds that, in 9 games, I'd start with the same card 7 times? Low odds, I'd assume. There have been many times when the game's decided to give me good luck - I know this, because it's given me the one 1-Mana Value spell I have in my deck in my opening hand every time. I've also noticed that it will always make sure you're drawing cards of a certain Mana Value. ![]() Other games, you'll be given no lands of your second colour and no effective cards to play with the colour you do have, and after you're beaten to a pulp, finally be given that second colour, as if it's a late apology. You can see it from a mile away: Some games, you'll be given 3 lands and 4 cards that 'curve out' perfectly with those lands, including one of your best cards in your deck. However, after years of playing this game, I, as well as many others (as seen on this forum) have noticed that this hand smoother does more than just check your lands, and will decide when you're getting a good hand or not. If you don't play Magic, you might not know what I'm talking about, but lands are a necessary base of resources to play the game. They've said that they did this to help fix land problems, giving you the hand that's closer to your land average. Whenever you're playing the Best of One format, the game will draw two separate hands, and then decide, for itself, which of those hands to give you. My biggest gripe is the 'hand smoother', or the way the game randomizes your deck. It's effectively a Gacha game wearing the skin of a time-tested physical card game, and also wearing the hat of 'the legitimate and competitive way to play Magic'. There are still tons of players active, and you can usually queue and get into a game within 10 seconds.Ĭons: Just about everything in Arena is a complete scam, from the UI, to the drafting system, to the 'hand smoother', to the 'shuffling' that it does for you. Pros: An active community that you can play against immediately. ![]()
